About Us
The Jamaica Import/Export Inspection Centre (JI/EIC) is a new facility established by the government as part of the Public Sector Modernization Programme. This Centre provides a central location from which regulatory agencies operate, offering a more coordinated and efficient process for the inspection of traded goods.
The Jamaica Import/Export Inspection Centre will house, under one roof, all the Regulatory Agencies with responsibility for human health and safety, animal health and plant health. The Centre spans the operations of three (3) Ministries: Agriculture & Fisheries; Industry, Investment and Commerce and Health, as well as the Jamaica Customs Department.
The JI/EIC is referred to as the “ONE STOP SHOP” as it affords customers the opportunity to access multiple government services from a single location.
The ONE STOP SHOP is established to shorten processing time, reduce overlaps and gaps in the inspection process andtominimize the need for importers/exporters to make multiple visits to Regulatory Agencies to do business.
“ONE STOP SHOP” modalities are being introduced across government to eliminate duplication of processes and to make doing business convenient and efficient.
The JI/EIC forms part of the thrust to encourage ‘joined up government’ by establishing collaborations between government bodies for improved service delivery, efficiency and optimum use of available resources.
The centre was created to:
- Serve as a central location to coordinate inspection of traded goods
- Achieve quicker inspection processing time
- Make representatives of Regulatory Agencies more accessible
- Keep pace with global trends in trade facilitation to boost trade competitiveness and attract investment
- More effectivelye protect the Jamaican border and safeguard animal, plant and public health
Who can access the services?
This service may be accessed by Importers/exporters Agents/individuals trading in goods that require inspection under the Jamaican Law.
